Police flag flies high on its raising day

Imphal, October 19 2021: The State celebrated the 130th Raising Day of Manipur Police at the parade ground of 1 st Battalion Manipur Rifles today with Chief Minister N Biren Singh as chief guest.

Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, DGP and other top police officials also attended the function.

At the occasion, the Chief Minister took salute from 16 march-past contingents.

Speaking at the function, N Biren Singh conveyed his best wishes to all officials of Manipur Police Department and appreciated the security personnel for their dedicated and disciplined service toward maintaining law and order and welfare of the public at large.

He continued that all sections of people should respect and honour police personnel.

Stating that law and order of the State has improved considerably, he added that the public now feel safe while moving anywhere across the State.

Mentioning the role of police in implementation of War Against Drugs campaign of the State Government, the Chief Minister maintained that the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur Police are putting in efforts to root out the drug menace in the State.

"The Government wouldn't compromise any anti-National elements which would hinder the development of the State and would take all necessary actions according to the law of the land," he added.

N Biren further stressed the need to enforce strict traffic rules as the State had witnessed many road accidents due to negligent driving.

He instructed the authorities concerned to start taking up stern actions against traffic rule violators.

He also urged the Police Department to be stricter, within the ambit of relevant law, while dealing with any law breakers citing its need in making 'our society a disciplined one'.

Stating that Home Minister Amit Shah under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed all the States to construct memorial parks for police recognizing the role they play in Nation building, N Biren informed that Manipur Police Memorial Park, being constructed at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Complex is nearing completion and the same would be inaugurated soon by the Prime Minister or Home Minister.

Delivering his speech, Director General of Police, Manipur LM Khaute stated that Manipur Police had always played a commendable role in maintaining law and order in the State.

He informed that Manipur Police along with Indian Army and Paramilitary forces had conducted many counter insurgency operations and area domination and had helped bring certain members of underground organizations to the mainstream.

"Arms and ammunition consisting of 149 weapons, 2,783 ammunition, 75 hand grenades, 398 detonators, 3 kg explosive substances and other explosive materials among others have been recovered.

Apart from these, a large amount of drugs had also been captured consisting of 36 kg of heroin, 841 kg of ganja, 479 kg of opium, 272 kg of brown sugar, around 9 lakh WY tablets, 18,710 SP capsules and more than 12,000 bottles of cough syrup among others," he added.

He also appreciated the Chief Minister for his continuous guidance and support to the Police Department.

The Chief Minister also distributed awards, trophies and commendations to police officers on the occasion.

T Lalboi Haokip, Commandant, 7th Battalion Manipur Rifles received DGP Running Trophy for the Best Battalion 2021 with a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a DGP commendation certificate; Dr Rashini Yengkhom, Commandant, 8th Indian Reserve Battalion received Second Best Battalion 2021 with Rs 10,000 cash and a DGP commendation certificate and Thingnam Deshorjit, Deputy Commandant, 8th Battalion Manipur Rifles received Third Best Battalion 2021 consisting a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a DGP commendation certificate.

Inspector Kangjam Santosh Singh, Officer-in-Charge of Khongjom Police Station received a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a commendation certificate for Best Police Station 2021; Inspector Laishram Khogen Singh, Officer-in-charge of Jiribam Police Station received a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and a commendation certificate for Second Best Police Station 2021 and Inspector Maibam Sudhirkumar Meitei Officer-in-Charge of City Police Station received a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.

Inspector Hopeson Chiphang, Officer-in-charge of Shangshak Police Station, Ukhrul District received the Best Police Officer 2021 award with a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.

The DGP commendation roll and disc for different units were received by IGP (Administration) IK Muivah, IGP (Zone-Ill); Lunsieh Kipgen, IGP (Zone-I and Zone-II); K Jayanta Singh, IGP (Intelligence); K Radhashyam Singh, and Elangbam Priyokumar Singh, IGP (AP/Ops).

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released a souvenir highlighting the various achievements of the Manipur Police Department in the last year.
