Imphal, October 19: Paying their last respect to N Pahari who passed away yesterday evening a large number of people today turned up to offer floral tributes to the late man at his Yaiskul residence.

MLA Dr M Nara and former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani were among the dignitaries who turned up to pay their respect to the departed soul.



Employees of AIR, Imphal and DDK Imphal also turned up to pay their respect.

The mortal remains of Pahari was consigned to the flames amidst the rendition of religious songs.

Describing his death as a great loss, a number of social organisations and civil society organisations have have issued condolence messages to convey their respect to the departed soul.

In his condolence message, titular Maharaj of Manipur said the contribution made by Pahari to the Manipuri society in various fields should not be forgotten by the people.

Mourning his death, Teng Sing Lup, whose members had served jail term along with Pahari at Imphal and Tripura Central Jails, has also condoled his death and described Pahari as a true Nationalist.

Expressing condolence over his sad demise, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) said Pahari was a multi-faceted personality.

Paying homage to the departed leader, senior members and Executive Committee members of Macha Leima organised a condolence meeting today and observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the noble soul.

Cultural and performing art groups like The Cultural Forum, Manipur; Ching-Tam Apunba Sheishak Lup, Theatre Centre, Manipur, Theatre Mirrow, Film Institute, Manipur, The Society Theatre, Manipur, Film Forum, Manipur, Kanglei Orchestral Group, KanglashaThe Youth Sur-Sangeet Association, Manipur Dramatic Union and participants of the 15-day playwriting workshop as part of 2-month workshop cum production being organised by Khenjonglang under the extension programme of National School of Drama, New Delhi have also condoled the death of Pahari.

Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) All India Radio, Imphal; Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Kanglei Chanura Chaokhat Lamjing Lup (Kangleichal), Writers' Forum Manipur, Universal Mothers' Association, All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association; Threatened Indigenous Peoples' Society (TIPS), Manipur; Society for promotion of Community Task, Buddhists' Council, Manipur, LMS Law College Students' Union and All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) were also among the social organisations which have mourned the death of Pahari., Manipur People's Party (MPP); Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council; Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Committee and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were also among the political parties which have mourned over the death of Pahari describing his demise as an irreparable loss to the people working in the field of art and culture in particular and the people of Manipur in general.

Far away from their original native State, Manipuri people who have settled in Barak Valley of Assam have also expressed their condolence over the death of Pahari.

In separate statements, Assam Meitei Apunba Lup, Barak Valley Meitei Convention and Progressive Students' Alliance of Barak Valley said death of Pahari who was the president of Threatened Indigenous People's Society is a great loss to Manipuri society.
