AR gun down 2 UG suspects ; Arms and Ammunitions recovered

Imphal, September 19 2012:
TWO SUSPECTED underground activists were killed during an alleged encounter by troops of 10th Assam Rifles near Don Bosco School, Phayeng under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West district in the wee hours today.
One AK-47 rifle, 24 live rounds, 15 empty cases, one 32 Pistol, three live rounds, 2 Chinese made hand granades and 1 IED were also reportedly recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspects.
According to police report, acting on specific information on the presence of some armed cadres along the foothills of Kangchup Kharang near Abolok bridge, close to Don Bosco School at Phayeng, troops of 10th Assam Rifles rushed to the spot where a fierce gun battle ensued with an unspecified number of heavily armed militants.
The gun battle lasted for about 5 minutes and the two suspected UG cadres were killed.
The other militants managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness.
The report further said that personnel of 10th Assam Rifles stationed at Singda have been remaining vigilant in view of the just concluded Panchayat polls with armed UGs targeting residences of candidates.
The bodies, whose identities are yet to be established, have been deposited at the mortuary of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
Meanwhile, a powerful hand grenade was found planted at the residence of an employee of Manipur Secretariat this morning.
The bomb was found planted at the gate of the residence of one Heiningshubam Chaoba (48)of Khagempali Pangkha Ningom Leirak.
Chaoba is a driver in
the Secretariat.
A team of bomb experts from Manipur police rushed to the site and retrieved the bomb which was later defused at Canchipur in the afternoon.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bomb threat.
