Imphal, March 19 2023: A combined team of Imphal West district police and Kangpokpi police have arrested a 'mastermind' who was running a gang of vehicle thieves from Kangpokpi district.

The alleged 'mastermind' has been identified as Let-goulen Khongsai (24), s/o Ngamkhohao Khongsai of M Wa Kothai village.

He was arrested from a rented house located at Phungtin Veng, Ward No 15, Kangpokpi last midnight.

According to the police, he was arrested in the follow up operation launched after the arrest of two vehicle lifters earlier on March 16 by Imphal West police and Senapati police.

The two had revealed the name of the 'mastermind', following which the police launched the operation last night to arrest Letgoulen Khongsai.

The operation last night was launched under the command of Rahul Gupta, SDPO Lamphel assisted by Inspector H Sanjoy, OC Lamsang PS under the overall supervision of S Ibomcha SP Imphal West and Th Vikramjit, SP Kangpokpi.

Police said Letgoulen Khongsai was wanted in an FIR case registered at Lamshang police station November last year and he is considered to be a 'mastermind' of running vehicle thievery operations across Manipur.

With his arrest, the police also recovered one stolen Bolero from his rented house.

He is in the custody of the Imphal West police.

In connection with this case, police have so far arrested 5 persons and recovered two stolen Bolero vehicles.

While the 'mastermind' is Letgoulen Khongsai, the other four arrested have been identified as Khailinii (32) s/o Thaipei of Thinga Khunou Senapati; PB Saleo (22) s/o Baolisii of Thinga Khunou Senapati; T Lunkhomang Haokip (37) s/o T Thangzangam Haokip of New Boljang Churachandpur and K Seithanglien (35) s/o K Seilenthang of New Boljang, Churachandpur.
