Imphal, March 19 2017: Chief Minister N Biren has claimed that the State Government led by BJP has got the UNC's prolonged economic blockade lifted within 24 hours of swearing in the newly elected MLAs.

Briefing media persons at Classic Hotel this evening after the State Government struck an agreement with the UNC during a tripartite meeting involving the Central Government at Senapati today, Biren went on to claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance to the people of Manipur to get the blockade lifted within 48 hours if BJP is elected to power has been translated into action.

With the prolonged economic blockade now lifted, all the people of Manipur cutting across community lines can now heave a sigh of relief, stated the Chief Minister.

He informed that the NPF contributed immensely in the efforts to get the economic blockade lifted.

The second mission of the BJP-led Government is to bring an understanding with families of the people killed during protest agitation against the three Bills passed by the State Assembly for protection of indigenous people and hold a meeting with the JAC constituted in connection with the same incident.

Even though Congress party ruled the State for the past 15 years, Imphal-Jiribam highway still remains unfit to be called a National Highway.

The new Government would hold a meeting with BRO and other authorities concerned regarding the issue on March 22, Biren stated.

He further assured that his Government would pay extra attention to develop the highway and its bridges including Makru bridge.

He also called upon the people to cooperate and help the Government in case it commits any mistakes or follies.
