Govt condemns, case to be handed over to NIA

Imphal, April 18 2026:
The Manipur Government has condemned in strongest terms the killing of two innocent civilians in an attack by militants at TM Kasom village, Ukhrul district.
The incident occurred today afternoon around 2.30 pm when suspected militants attacked five cars travelling on Imphal-Ukhrul road.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said that the police have registered a case at Litan police station, and the investigation is in progress.
He assured that the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further inquiry.
He expressed his deepest condolences and shared the grief of the bereaved families.
Such targeted attack is a direct assault on peace and communal harmony in the State, the Chief Minister said and added that this heinous and cowardly act of violence against unarmed civilians is utterly reprehensible and has no place in a civilized society.
Khemchand said that security forces have launched operations to apprehend those responsible for the attack and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are swiftly identified and brought to justice.
A press release issued by the CM's Secretariat said that the Chief Minister and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam are personally monitoring the situation and a high-level meeting was held today to review security arrangements.
The Home Minister appealed to the general public to cooperate with the security personnel in trying to nab the attackers.
The Chief Minister said that the Government of Manipur remains firmly committed to protecting the lives of its citizens and will take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such barbaric incidents.
The Chief Minister appealed to all communities to maintain calm and not fall prey to provocations intended to vitiate the atmosphere.
