Smriti Irani goes hammer and tongs against Cong

Imphal, February 18 2022: Taking pot shots at the Congress, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani today said, 'When even Rahul Gandhi no longer has any faith in the Congress, should the people of Manipur back this party ?' .

Incidentally Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to lead a public rally here on February 21 .

Addressing the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate S Rajen at Lamshang Assembly Constituency today, Smriti Irani said that the people of Manipur should have no reason to repose their future in the Congress which today does not even enjoy the trust and confidence of Rahul Gandhi ! .

Seeking to strike a chord with the womenfolk of the Constituency, Irani said that during the long years of Congress rule nothing was done for the upliftment of women and children.

No welfare measures for women were ever taken up, she said and added that all these were set right with the coming of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country.

It was to do something for the womenfolk of the land that the New Education Policy formulated by the BJP led Government has focused on gender empowerment.

All this is done not only for the present but also with an eye on the coming generations, she added.

The Union Minister further said that the people of Manipur should introspect on the election manifesto of the BJP, which was released on February 17, and vote for the party to help it implement all the promises included in the manifesto.

Chief Minister N Biren who also attended the function said that leading a coalition Government can be difficult and urged the people to ensure that the BJP is voted back in such a way that it is able to form the Government on its own.

Alleging that a recent map of North East India put up by Rahul Gandhi on his Twitter account did not include the North East, the Chief Minister said that this reflects the fact that the region does not figure in the consciousness of the Congress at all.

In such a situation would it make sense to support the party which has no knowledge of the land, asked Biren.

Do not welcome such a personality to Manipur, added the Chief Minister.

The Union Minister also joined the campaign of Okram Henry who is contesting from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.

Addressing a public meeting, Smriti Irani asked people in Manipur whether they expect the Congress, which could not build toilets in the State, to shape their future and urged the public to boycott Rahul Gandhi's scheduled rally on February 21.The Congress always ignored the North East region and used it as an ATM to fill their own pockets, she charged.

"Only BJP can only bring prosperity to the State and can ensure people live with dignity.

BJP will bring first AIIMS in Manipur after February 28.Girls are the pride of Manipur.

We will give them scooty and laptop for their studies," she said.

"The Gandhi family did politics in Manipur with selfish motives.

Manipur people suffered blockades where youth queued at fuel stations for long hours and parents used to send their children to other cities as they did not see any future for them," she said.

"The Congress Government was unfair to Manipur.

PM Modi constructed toilets at each house.

Toilet was never part of the agenda in politics but Modi did it," she added.

PM Modi has come 54 times to NE region, said Sambit Patra and asked how many times Dr Manmohan Singh, visited Manipur during his tenure.
