Imphal, June 17 2025:
The enquiry committee which probed the outrageous Gwaltabi incident which took place on May 20, 2025 submitted its report to the Government on June 14,2025, according to the COCOMI .
A six-member team of COCOMI met a member of the enquiry committee at the New Secretariat on June 16 .
Saying that the enquiry report is now in the office of the Governor, COCOMI has asserted that the Governor should either place the enquiry report in public domain or take necessary actions to deliver justice to the people who were deeply hurt by the particular incident.
Protecting the integrity, identity and dignity of Manipur is the first and foremost responsibility of every Manipur and the people have been fighting against any act which challenges the integrity and identity of Manipur without even caring for their lives, said a press release issued by COCOMI .
As the Gwaltabi incident challenged the integrity and identity of Manipur, it is a fundamental duty of the Government to do justice to the aggrieved people, it said.
Urging the Governor to take up appropriate actions based on facts and the enquiry report, the COCOMI has asserted that there may arise the need for an independent enquiry which is more transparent and accountable if the Government's actions are not satisfactory to the people.
The people and the COCOMI are eagerly waiting for the Government to do justice based on the enquiry committee's report, it added.
The Editors' Guild, Manipur and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union had also strongly condemned the incident and demanded a probe as the bus was carrying journalists to cover the Shirui Lily Festival.
