PREPAK greets on International Justice Day

The proscribed PREPAK has greeted all the people across the planet on the occasion of International Justice Day which falls on July 17 .
A statement issued by the outfit's assistant secretary, publicity and propaganda Leibakngakpa Luwang called upon the people of Kangleipak (Manipur) to join the international movement against crimes against humanity, war crimes, genocide and crimes of aggression so that justice, peace and prosperity prevail in the world.
The mid 20th century witnessed many man made catastrophic events and as a result of these events, the International Criminal Court (ICC) was set up.
After six crore people were killed in the World War II, many individuals who committed crimes against humanity were punished by the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials.
On December 9, 1948, the United Nation's General Assembly Convention on the Prevention of Crime and Genocide adopted Resolution No 260 which laid the foundation for the Criminal Tribunal of Genocide.
In accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution Nos 808 and 827 of 1993, the International Criminal Tribunal of former Yugoslavia was set up.
This was followed by the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda which was set up on November 8, 1994 .
The two tribunals conducted trials of all those who committed war crimes in the course of the armed conflicts within the two countries.
Many who were earlier wearing the shield of immunity were pulled up and forced to stand on the dock.
Prime Minister of Rwanda Jean Kambanda was also sentenced to life imprisonment on the charge of committing genocide against four lakh people.
President of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic was also apprehended and sent to prison for the war crimes he committed against the people of Albania but he died in prison before his trial could be completed, the outfit narrated.
The International Criminal Court Statute or the Rome Statute has been ratified by 102 countries so far.
In accordance with the resolution of the Rome Conference held on July 17, 1998, the ICC was set up on July 1, 2002.Since then July 17 is being observed as International Justice Day every year.
The ICC has been working continuously to bring justice in all cases of crimes against humanity involving different countries.
Former President of Liberia Charles Taylor was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment on May 30, 2012 after he was found guilty on 111 counts by the Special War Crime Court based at the Hague for abetting and supporting the Revolutionary United Front during the civil war in Sierra Leone where more than 50,000
people were killed.
It is only obvious that the ICC has been striving to punish all those who violated rules of war and committed crimes against humanity irrespective of their position of power, even if it sometimes comes very late, PREPAK asserted.
Alleging that New Delhi has been committing all kinds of genocide and crimes against humanity in Kangleipak, the outfit accused the Indian military of orchestrating fake encounters and forced disappearances which are prohibited by the ICC.
There would certainly come a time when all the Indian political leaders and military officers have to stand in the dock of the ICC without any shield of impunity for all the crimes against humanity they committed, the outfit asserted.
