Imphal, May 16:
A special team of the All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA), Head office has been set up to monitor the activities and the conditions of the drug deaddiction centres being run under the sponsorship of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as well as other privately run ones in the State.
This was announced by social welfare secretary of the anti-drug body K Hemabati Chanu during a press conference at the office of the Association this afternoon.
Along with inspection of the physical set up, administration, admission fee structure, nature of medical treatment and counselling being given to the patients, the special team would also try to understand the problems being faced by these centres, she said, adding this step is being taken up to ensure quality treatment to the inmate in commensurate with the fund provided.
While pointing out that there is no uniformity in the amount of the admission fee charged from the patients at these drug rehabilitation centres, she said the admission fees being charged range from anywhere between Rs 3000 to Rs 4500.The special team of AMADA would also look into this aspect, she added.
Hemabati further said that although the recent visit of the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar to Manipur was appreciable, the Minister was not given the opportunity to underground the real issues.
Instead of providing the right information on the issues of drug addiction in Manipur, the Minister was fed with tailored table reports, she asserted.
