Heavy fighting erupts between Myanmar militants, NE rebel

Imphal, May 15 2024:
A heavy gun battle erupted between Myanmar militants and insurgent groups of Manipur in the border area of India and Myanmar early this morning.
On seeing the movement of some cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF near Maringthel area in Tengnoupal district, Myanmar militants numbering around 200 launched a fierce attack using sophisticated weapons and rocket propelled grenades at around 3.30 am today, sources said.
The cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF retaliated resulting in a heavy exchange of fire which went on for some time.
As the Myanmar militants did not stop the attack even after hours of fierce fighting, PLA cadres rushed to the area and joined the fighting, said the sources.
One cadre of the Pambei-led UNLF sustained minor injury in an RPG blast.
The sources said that there might be some casualties on the side of the Myanmar militants.
Although there has been no official confirmation of the incident till the filing of this report, intermittent firing went on till late evening in the area.
