Imphal, November 14 2024: Students of Jiribam staged a protest demonstration at Manipur University Gate today appealing for safe release of six abducted by Kuki militants recently.

The students condemned the abduction of the six including 3 women and 3 minors, and called on the Government to swiftly trace their whereabouts and rescue them safely.

The protesters termed the abduction of the six including an infant a heinous crime and an act of terror which is aimed at deepening the conflict.

Jiribam Students' Forum Imphal president Namei-rakpam Chingkheinganba said the abduction of the women and children should be condemned by all sections of the society.

Urging the Government to swiftly secure their release, he cautioned that the students and the public may launch intense agitation if they are not rescued in time.

The student leader added that he has not seen any visible and concrete action from the Government to rescue the six.

Before the November 11 attack during which Kuki militants abducted the six persons, Chingkheinganba said, the people of Jakuradhor had been urging the Government to send adequate security forces in the region for protection.

Appeals were made but the Government didn't send adequate security personnel to the region.

The November 11 attack occurred due to ineffective measures, he claimed.

The students raised slogans demanding immediate and safe release of the six women and children.

Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil was taken out at Kangla Western Gate today.

The candlelight vigil demonstrated solidarity with the six victims and appealed for their safe release.

Members and volunteers of Taragi Cheishu, Team Meitei Personalities, Yel-houmee Phurup and Ima Trust took part in the candlelight vigil.

Taragi Cheishu co-chairman, Dr RK Nimai said abducting women and children who are not at all related to the conflict is highly condemnable.

He appealed for the safe release of the six women and children.
