Imphal, August 14 2024:
The Director, Youth Affairs and Sports has lodged a complaint at Imphal police station against the All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) and others who were involved in organising a rock concert at Khuman Lampak turf ground on August 13 evening.
According to the complaint, the rock concert was organised without taking any prior permission/approval from the competent authorities including the Deputy Commissioner concerned and the Director, YAS thereby violating peace and tranquillity as well as other relevant laws of the land.
Moreover, the AMFA is also held responsible for causing noise pollution without prior permission from Manipur Pollution Control Board.
The complaint filed by YAS Director T Phulen Meitei said that a large number of youths, with many under the influence of alcohol, created ruckus during the event held under the theme "Athouba Singda Katchaba".
"This is an insult to our fallen heroes of Manipur who sacrificed their lives against the mighty British empire", said the complaint.
It also pointed out that the State has been observing August 13 as Patriots' Day every year with offering of floral tributes to the fallen heroes and other ritual ceremonies.
"The act of the AMFA is a slap to our fallen heroes and hurt the sentiment of the people", it said.
It then urged the OC, Imphal police station to take up necessary action against all the executive members of AMFA and others who were involved in organising the rock concert.
Meanwhile, the Global Manipur Federation (GMF) has vehemently condemned the concert held at Khuman Lampak on Patriots Day (13th August), 2024, a day meant to honour the sacrifices of "our forefathers" and reflect on the spirit of patriotism.
Instead of solemnity and respect, the event was marred by revellers who conducted themselves in an entirely inappropriate manner, dishonouring the significance of the day, the GMF said in a press release.
It is deeply disheartening to witness such a blatant disregard for the values and traditions that Patriots Day represents, it said.
The choice to host a concert on such a solemn day, coupled with the inappropriate behaviour exhibited, is a clear insult to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Manipur, it said.
The GMF then urged the authorities to take appropriate action against the organizers of the concert to ensure that such disrespectful conduct is not repeated in the future.
It also called upon all event organizers, cultural bodies, and the general public to be more mindful of the significance of National days.
Such events should be planned and conducted with the utmost respect, reflecting the true spirit of patriotism and honour.
"Patriots Day should unite us in reverence and remembrance, not be used as an opportunity for frivolity and disrespect", it added.
