CPI rally demands session, details of talks

Imphal, November 13 2019: CPI Imphal East Council organised a mass rally and a public meeting at Kala Bidya Bhavan, Khurai Sajor Leikai today, demanding that the details of the Framework Agreement be disclosed immediately.

The mass rally began from Kala Bidya Bhavan with the people carrying banners which read 'Call a special session of State Assembly immediately', 'No division by the Naga peace accord' and 'We oppose the undeclared Framework Agreement' etc.

The people also raised slogans like 'No to Autonomous Territorial Council', 'No to any harm on Manipur' s integrity', 'Hills and valley are one' etc.

It passed along Lamlong Keithel before trying to head towards Manipur State Assembly side.

However, the rally was prevented from going further by a large number of police personnel deployed in the area thus forcing the protesters to turn back and head for Kala Bidya Bhavan.

Following the rally, a public meeting was organised at the site.

Speaking to the gathering, Manipur State Council, CPI, State secretary L Sotinkumar said that the rally and the public meeting was organised as a part of the continuous movement by CPI for the welfare of Manipur and its people.

Lamenting that the rally was prevented from going towards the State Assembly, Sotinkumar, on behalf of CPI, demanded a Special State Assembly session be convened immediately.

Questioning why the Chief Minister is reluctant to convene such a session, he alleged that normally there should be around 50 days of Assembly session in a year but under his (Biren) period, such sessions are rare.

Sotinkumar further alleged that the CM is afraid to take positive actions due to the presence of NPF MLAs in his BJP led coalition Government.

The CM is acting completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere in the State, he said, strongly opposing the appeal made by the CM to the people to remain calm and composed as the Framework Agreement supposedly does not contain anything which will affect Manipur.

He then asked the State Government if it is planning to divert the people away from the serious threat posed by the Naga political issue, by organising Sangai Festival and keeping the people engrossed in festivities.

Sotinkumar urged the people not to believe the half baked appeal of the CM and reasoned that only the united voice of the people can save Manipur and her integrity.

Honouring the beliefs and vision of Hijam Irabot, CPI has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the people and the State all these years.

CPI will be staging sit-ins, organising rallies and protests in the future.

It will also fully support the movement of the people and the CSOs, he announced.
