Imphal, January 11: Along with re-electing Dr L Chandramani as the president of Manipur People's Party (MPP), the annual session of the party conference held here today has adopted various resolutions including exerting pressure on the Government of India to conduct re-census of Manipur.

During the conference, Returning Officer of the MPP presidential election L Jatra announced the re-election of Dr L Chandramani as the president of MPP uncontested for a three-year term from 2008-2010 and handed over the certificate to him.

Dr L Chandramani has also been the adhoc president of MPP after his appointment to the post on September 18, 2006 by the Preparatory Committee which was set up for the merger of the then regional parties like DRPP, Federal Party of Manipur and MPP under the common nomenclature of MPP.

While expressing strong opposition to the move of delimitation process in Manipur on the basis of the controversial Census report of 2001 during the annual session of the party conference, MPP has also welcomed the decision of the Government of India to exclude Manipur from the ambit of the Delimitation Act, 2002.Along with a serious deliberation on the political issues of the State, the party conference has also adopted numerous resolutions.

The resolution include to exert pressure on the Government of India for conducting re-census in Manipur so as to find out the exact number of the population of the indigenous people as well as migrant population and reaffirmation of the pledge to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Maintaining that the existing armed conflict situation in Manipur is not a law and order problem but the reaction of the people to the alleged annexation of Manipur by India, the party conference resolved that Delhi should initiate political dialogue with the various armed outfits in the State without any pre-condition as military action is not the solution.

Giving special attention to Manipur in the Look East Policy of the Government of India without any compromise to the interest of Manipur and allowing free passage to the neighbouring people of Myanmar to go through Manipur on their way to pilgrimage at Bodh Gaya and promote trade activities are also among the resolutions adopted during the conference.

Other resolutions include increasing the annual income of OBC creamy layer to Rs 5 lakhs, ensuring parity in the number of representatives of all the States, whether big or small, in the Upper House Rajya Sabha, immediate removal of AFSPA, granting ST status to followers of Sanamahi religion, setting up of a State Nursing Council and implementation of a State Action of Action of the Health Policy, increasing the fund of the Centrally sponsored projects from 12 percent to 50 percent, allowing the indigenous people of Manipur to settle in any part of the State and urging the Government of India to hand over the Loktak Project to the Government of Manipur.
