Imphal, October 09 2026:
With Inner Lok Sabha MP Prof Bimol Akoijam dismissed from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on the charges of misbehaving with female students and making lewd statements, the BJP Manipur has urged the Parliamentarian to resign from the Lok Sabha.
Speaking to the media at Thambal Shanglen, Nityaipat Chuthek, today, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Manipur president A Sharda Devi said that the dismissal of Prof Bimol by the JNU Vice-Chancellor, following an investigation into his alleged misbehaviour by the university's internal committee, reflected his disregard for women.

She alleged that the major punishment was taken against Prof Bimol for his actions against 11 university students who had lodged a complaint against him.
Saying that parents send their children to educational institutions to pursue their studies, Sharda said that the Lok Sabha MP must resign for behaving inappropriately towards female students.
She also urged the Congress leadership to remove Prof Bimol from his position as an MP .
Although Prof Bimol denied the charges, his dismi- ssal from JNU reflected the seriousness of the allegations against him, she added.
Claiming that Prof Bimol has been found guilty of the charges of sexual harassment, she appealed to all women to stand against the degradation of women in society.
His misconduct has been exposed, so he must step down as a Parliamentarian, Sharda said and questioned how long Prof Bimol would continue to behave in a similar manner.
Sharda also urged Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, being women themselves, to take strict action against their MP over his alleged misconduct.
Claiming that the Congress party has been in- volved in various wrongdoings since Independence, besides spreading falsehoods, she added that the party would never succeed without the support of the people.
Further claiming that Prof Bimol, who has been demanding the resettlement of internally displaced people, was penalised for behaving inappropriately towards women, she appealed to the people to teach him a befitting lesson.
The press briefing was also attended by BJP, Manipur general secretary K Saratkumar and other party leaders.
