MLAs fix meet with BL Santosh

Imphal, October 09 2025: Six MLAs including ex-Chief Minister N Biren and Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata will hold a meeting with BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh at 11 am on Friday.

The MLAs who are currently camping at Delhi to exert pressure on BJP Central leaders to install a popular Government in place of President's Rule held a meeting with BJP North East Coordinator Sambit Patra on Wednesday, and Sambit Patra agreed to a meeting between the MLA and BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh.

Subsequently, a meeting has been fixed between the MLAs and BL Santosh at 11 am tomorrow.

MLAs fix meet with BL Santosh

Speaker Th Satyabrata (Yaiskul AC), ex-Chief Minister N Biren (Heingang AC), Thongam Biswajit (Thongju AC), Yumnam Khemchand (Singjamei AC), Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur AC) and Khongbantabam Ibomcha (Lamlai AC) will hold a meeting with BL Santosh at BJP National office, New Delhi tomorrow.

On their meeting with Sambit Patra yesterday, some MLAs clarified that Sambit Patra never told them he could not give any opportunity to meet with BJP National leaders.

The MLAs maintained that the meeting held yesterday was very positive.

Following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren, President's Rule was imposed in the State on February 13, 2025 for a period of six months.

President's Rule was extended for another six months on August 13.Sambit Patra reportedly told the BJP MLAs that there will be no further extension of President's Rule and a popular Government would be formed in Manipur shortly.

During the meeting with the BJP North East Coordinator, the MLAs highlighted the difficulties they have been facing under the President's Rule, the growing pressure from BJP workers and supporters of their respective Assembly segments to form a popular Government and the problems BJP MLAs are likely to face in the 13ih Manipur Legislative Assembly election in 2027 in case a popular Government is not formed at the earliest.

The MLAs also spoke at length on several major issues of the State.

Sambit Patra said that he came to meet the BJP MLAs at the instruction of the party's top leaders.

Advising the MLAs not to fix a deadline or specific timeframe for formation of a popular Government in Manipur, Sambit Patra said that the Central leaders are well aware of the current issues of Manipur.

The Central Government has been working hard for reconciliation between the two communities in conflict in order to bring a concrete solution to the Manipur crisis, Sambit Patra told the MLAs.

Claiming that things are going in the right direction and reconciliation process is underway, Sambit Patra asked the MLAs not to fix a deadline for the formation of a popular Government.

The BJP high command as well as the Central leaders too want to install a popular Government in Manipur at the earliest, the BJP North East Coordinator told the BJP MLAs from Manipur.

BJP Central leaders are well aware of the current issues of Manipur as well as the difficulties being faced by the MLAs.

The Central leaders are working to install a popular Government in Manipur, Sambit Patra said.

He also appealed to all the MLAs to support the Centre's efforts to resolve all the key issues and restore peace and normalcy in the State.

The current term of the President's Rule expires on February 12, 2026.As soon as the reconciliation process between Meitei and Kuki is complete, the Centre will allow formation of a popular Government in the State without further extending the President's Rule, said some of the BJP MLAs who are currently at Delhi.
