'The only option left is self defence'

The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and four other organisations have categorically stated that the only option left for the people of Manipur is self-defence for the Government of India, according to them, will never protect them.
AMUCO, AMAWOVA, Poirei Leimarol, MSF and COHR jointly organised a protest demonstration at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall today.
Speaking to media persons, AMUCO president Sorokhaibam Sanjoy, while pointing out the extensive search operations being carried out in the valley areas whereas militants are given a free hand in the hills, questioned the brazen biased attitude of the Government of India.
He said that the Government of India has been creating artificial crises one after another in Manipur for a long time, with a sinister objective to wipe out the entire Manipuri community.
Instead of working to bring back normalcy and peace, the Government of India has been actively pursuing a divide and rule policy, and allegedly abetting large scale violence and displacement, Sanjoy said.
Vehemently condemning the attack carried out by foreign militants in Kamjong district on May 7, 2026, the AMUCO president asserted that it has been 77 years the people of Manipur have been living under the Government of India's administration which is no better than a colonial rule.
There have been numerous incidents of rape and murder of women, killing of people in fake encounters and involuntary disappearances, he said.
Even though India claims to be the largest democracy in the world, there is no difference between the Government of India's administration and the British colonial rule to the people of Manipur, he said.
Noting that many people went missing or were abducted from Kamjong yesterday but neither the Government of India nor the State Government has bothered to come out with a concrete statement on the disturbing incident, Sanjoy slammed the Government as utterly irresponsible.
The Government of India has started re-imposing black laws in the valley areas and has launched military operations.
But the hill areas where militants rule the roost are spared from any such military operations.
Accusing the Government of India of aiding militants under SoO agreement, the AMUCO president asked the Government of India to give an unambiguous explanation for letting militants slaughter the people of Manipur at will.
More than 60,000 people remain displaced till today and all sections of people have been suffering extreme misery.
"Let us live with freedom.
This is our slogan.
"The Manipuri people lived as a free Nation and we want to live freely", he said.
The people of Manipur and the five organisations know well that it is the Government of India which has been working to exterminate the people by waging a proxy war with the help of SoO and non-SoO militants, Sanjoy said.
Alleging that the Government of India drew up a plan in 2020 to wipe out Manipur, the AMUCO president asserted that the people of Manipur will teach the Government of India a befitting lesson before 2029.He went on to allege that the Government of India has been keeping Manipur under military rule even though it claims to be the biggest democracy in the world.
He appealed to all communities to join the movement to protect Manipur and work collectively to create a uniform society where there is no distinction among the communities.
"We must defend ourselves.
It's time to give up the notion that the Government of India will protect us", he said.
The Government of India will never do anything good for Manipur nor will New Delhi bring peace in the State.
It is the people of Manipur who must bridge all gaps and restore peace in the State, he added.
