Imphal, June 07 2024:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has asserted that the crushing defeat suffered by ruling BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections will be reflected glaringly on the next State Assembly elections.
Speaking to some media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Meghachandra said the Lok Sabha election results heralded BJP's downfall in Manipur and it will never ever rise again.
On the other hand, Congress party's fortune has been improving remarkably both at the Centre and in the State, he claimed.
Congress party's wave as seen in the huge margins with which the Congress candidates wrested the two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur will remain in the State for a very long time, he said.
This wave will be very much there in the next State Assembly election, he continued.

BJP ex-MP and ex-Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr RK Ranjan asserted that the failures of Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda led to BJP's humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
Dr RK Ranjan also blamed Biren and Sharda for the protracted violent crisis besieging the State, Meghachandra continued.
He said that the BJP Government has failed miserably to protect the lives and properties of the people.
Even though it is said that the Free Movement Regime along Indo-Myanmar border has been scrapped, there is continuous influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar to Kamjong district of Manipur.
There are also many illegal immigrants in Tengnoupal, Chandel and Churachandpur districts.
The ground situation has changed very little even though the FMR has been scrapped, he said.
Citing police sources, the MPCC president said that a large number of people from Myanmar have been crossing into Kamjong without any restriction.
He then appealed to the Chief Minister to make scrapping of FMR meaningful and check the influx of illegal immigrants effectively.
Aggrieved and deeply hurt by the abject failure of the BJP Government to tackle the protracted crisis and bring peace to the State, the people taught a befitting lesson to BJP in the recent Lok Sabha election, Meghachandra said.
BJP took recourse to excessive muscle power, money power and gun culture in the recent Lok Sabha elections but people detested all such practices and they elected the Congress candidates with overwhelming margins, he continued.
BJP's double-engine Government has failed miserably on multiple fronts; prices of all essential commodities have skyrocketed, careers of lakhs of youth have been jeopardised and a large section of the people have been struggling to survive, Meghachandra said.
He claimed that even if a new NDA Government is sworn in at the Centre, it would not last long.
Both JD(U) and TDP have put a number of riders and demanded many key portfolios.
Such a Government formed after negotiating so many riders would never last long.
TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu was earlier jailed by the BJP Government and it is BJP's nature to bully smaller allies, the MPCC president asserted.
For registration of newly elected MPs, Alfred Kanngam Arthur reached Delhi yesterday and Dr Bimol Akoijam would leave for Delhi tomorrow.
The MPCC president said that he would leave for Delhi today to attend a meeting of the Congress Working Committee scheduled at 11 am on Saturday.
CLP leader O Ibobi and CWC member Gaikhangam too would attend the meeting.
The CWC would also deliberate on the protracted violent crisis of Manipur, Meghachandra said.
He also condemned the brutal killing of an innocent civilian at Jiribam on Thursday and urged the Government to book and award exemplary punishment to all the culprits at the earliest.
He further appealed to all the people to work collectively to bring peace and harmony in Manipur.
