Imphal, September 06 2012:
It is not uncommon where natives of small nations have been outnumbered by immigrants and are living a moribund life unable to preserve their own identity, culture and traditions.
For example, Paleo Indians (better known as Red Indians) who lived in America for more than 20,000 years are on the verge of extinction, said a statement issued by the CorCom.
Native Australians who spoke more than 600 languages before the arrival of Europeans in the island country have now vanished while many others are on the verge of extinction.
Likewise, indigenous people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands which India took over from British colonisers are also struggling for survival due to continuous influx from India.
In Western South East Asia (North East region of India), indigenous Tripuris have been devastated after they have been rendered minority in their land due to continuous influx of Bengalis.
Manipur (Kangleipak) too have been reeling under severe social, political, economic and demographic impacts on account of incessant influx of migrants.
In the meantime, the Government of India has been effectively employing a strategy of 'population invasion', apart from massive influx from other countries.
Given this situation, the indigenous people need to take up some effective measures to check the influx and drive out the existing immigrants, asserted CorCom.
Such distortion of social set-up due to influx of migrants is not a phenomenon restricted to Western South East Asia (WESEA) alone.
The USA, as it exists today, is a country of immigrants.
The indigenous people of America constitute less than one per cent of the total population of the USA, and immigrant Europeans constitute more than 90 pc of the population.
By 1882, Chinese people were restricted entry in the USA under a policy to make the country exclusively for Europeans.
By 1921, migration from Europe to the USA dropped drastically and it was followed by even stricter policy to ban entry of immigrants.
The policy was relaxed to some extent in 1965 according to their (European immigrants) convenience.
From 2000, the USA officially allowed entry of 10,00,000 immigrants in a year but it is estimated that 500,000 to 700,000 immigrants have been coming to the USA every year illegally.
To check and discourage this huge influx, the Government of USA framed several laws and measures including fencing along Mexican border, enhancing the strength of police for hunting down illegal migrants, awarding harsh punishment, imposing fines on employers and companies which gave employment to illegal migrants and cancellation of licences of companies.
The European Union too is worried that Europe would become 'Eurobia' after some years if influx from Arabian countries is not checked in time.
Walter Laqueur in his book 'The last days of Europe' said that immigrant Muslims are determined to alter the identity of Europe and attributed all the problems of Europe to immigrant Muslims.
Anna Marie Gallagher wrote in 2005, "Out of the European Union's total population of 375 millions, one million are refugee and asylum seekers and migrants number 13 millions which is 3/7 per cent of the total population.
In addition, there are five million immigrants who do not possess any document.
The average volume of influx in the EU in a year is 2.5 millions" .
British Prime Minister David Cameron stated that 2 million migrants entered Great Britain between 1997 and 2009 and these immigrants got one-third of the 2.4 million jobs created since 1997 .
France, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, Italy and many other European countries are also facing similar problems of influx, said CorCom.
Even New Zealand which is sparsely populated is worried about influx and it has restricted the number of immigrants to 45,000 in year, and these immigrants must be educated professionals.
A classified document revealed in 2012 said that the Government of New Zealand had a policy to give preference to rich and English speaking immigrants.
Singapore too has been imposing layers of restriction on entry of foreign nationals.
As per report published in 2009, 36 per cent of the population of Singapore are immigrants.
Japan is following a 'zero immigration policy' .
Israel which was formed by immigrants is also facing the problem of influx.
By 2000, 12 per cent of the country's labour force was constituted by immigrants.
