MSCP names 1st batch candidates

Imphal, December 05 2011: Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) has announced the names of the first batch of its candidates who will contest in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections today.

The candidates announced by MSCP president Y Mani were MSCP vice-president Adim Pammei for Nungba AC, Bountia Keishing in Phungyar AC and and MSCP Youth Front president T Bheigyachandra Shamuphaba for Thongju AC .

Earlier, the MSCP observed its 14th foundation day cum political conference at GM Hall here today with the party's advisor and former Minister Chandam Manihar and party president Yumnam Mani as chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, Y Mani clarified that MSCP is no 'B-team' of any political party including Congress party.

The rumour currently doing the rounds among political circle of the State that MSCP is B-team of Congress party is totally baseless, he asserted.

Claiming that many prospective candidates have sent feelers to the party requesting to allow them contest in the Assembly elections under the banner of MSCP, Mani predicted that not less than 15 MSCP candidates would be elected to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

He went on to claim that MSCP would constitute a major partner of a coalition Government that would be formed after the election.

Chandam Manihar said that MSCP would not go for any pre-poll alliance.

Saying that the party would fight the elections based on issues, Manihar sought people's support to the party.

MSCP spokesperson noted that no MP from Manipur has been made a Union Minister although the Congress party has been in power for two consecutive terms.

However, when MSCP was in power in the State for three years and half, the party's MP was made a Union Minister.

After the Election Commission of India had clarified that MSCP was never merged with BJP, the BJP's claim over MSCP's properties was also rejected by Court, the spokesman said.

Resolutions adopted at the conference was later read to the people by the party's working president Kh Devbratta.

The resolutions including providing full support to the party's candidates in order to ensure their success, setting up citizen auditors for checking development funds sanctioned by the Government against different Assembly segments and enactment of the National Highway Protection Act.
