149 more test positive to take total to 3167

Imphal, August 05 2020: One hundred and forty nine more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours pushing the State's tally to 3167 .

The 75 cases include 42 persons from the general population and 33 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force.

The 42 cases detected from among the general population include 28 males and 14 females.

They hail from Imphal West (13 cases), Imphal East (13), Thoubal (11), Chandel (2), Churachandpur (1), Senapati (1) and Bishnupur (1).Three out of the 42 cases including one each from Senapati, Chandel and Churachandpur are returnees.

The remaining 39 cases have no significant travel history.

They are being shifted to COVID Care Centres and contact tracing is in place, said a report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The last 24 hours also saw 48 persons discharged from CCCs after recovery from COVID-19 .

They were discharged from CCCs at RD Wing (17), Meitram (11), District Hospital Thoubal (10), Thoubal (3), Ukhrul (6) and Kamjong (1) .

The number of recovered persons has reached 1862 and the recovery rate now stands at 60.20 percent.

The number of active cases is 1224 and death toll so far is 7, said the COVID-19 Common Control Room.

According to sources with the Health Department, two nurses and three lab technicians engaged with mobile COVID testing at Thoubal district have tested positive for the virus.

In addition, a 19-year-old boy and his father, who came for treatment at RIMS, have also been tested COVID-19 positive today.

Spiking the number of infected cases among the personnel of Mayang Imphal Police Station, one cop has also tested COVID positive today at RIMS.

Further, a doctor stationed at Samurou Primary Health Sub-Centre has also tested positive for the virus and the centre has been sealed off as a containment zone.

Meanwhile, as many as 831 samples were tested at JNIMS hospital today and 33 were found positive for the virus, said sources.

In addition, after detection of two COVID-19 cases at JNIMS Hospital, the Male Surgery Ward (Medicine) and Antenatal Ward have been closed for 48 hours.

While one patient in the Male Surgery Ward (Medicine) ground floor who was admitted on August 3 as a case of Subdural Hematoma tested positive yesterday, another patient, a woman in the Antenatal Ward tested COVID positive late evening (yesterday) after normal delivery, said a memorandum issued by Professor T Rajen Singh, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS Hospital.

Both the COVID cases have been shifted to the COVID Ward of the hospital.

As an interim arrangement, the patients admitted in the Female Surgery Ward (first floor) will be shifted to the Female Surgery Ward on the second floor.

The patients of the Male Surgery ground floor will be shifted to the Female Surgery Ward, first floor.

The Male Surgery Ward ground floor will remain closed for 48 hours.

The patients from the Antenatal will be shifted to the Postnatal Ward (PNW).

In the meantime, the patients from the PNW will be shifted to the Gynaecology and Septic Ward as an interim arrangement.

Hence the ANW will also remain closed for a minimum period of 48 hours.

Proper sanitation measures are being taken up and the Department of Community Medicine has been directed to take up contact tracing and identify healthcare workers who will require isolation, said the memorandum.

On the other hand, COVID-19 patients at JNIMS walked out of the COVID Ward dissatisfied with the food provided to them today.

After the ruckus at the campus, an emergency meeting at the office chamber of the Director, JNIMS was convened and it was decided to improve mess supplied to COVID patients, said a statement of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

Earlier during lockdown, one boiled egg with one bottle of packaged drinking water (1 litre) each was given as breakfast to COVID patients.

Now, the breakfast will include one boiled egg, one small packet of biscuit and one bottle of packaged drinking water (1 litre) .

The items to be served as lunch will include rice, dal/vegetable curry and egg/fish curry alongwith one 1 litre packaged drinking water.

Earlier, rice, dal/vegetable curry and one bottle of packaged drinking water were given.

The dinner will include egg/fish curry and vegetables with two bottles of packaged drinking water everyday.

All patients will be provided four bottles (1 litre) of drinking water instead of three bottles, said the statement.

Meanwhile, samples of 120 persons including club volunteers who are under quarantine at the North Imphal Youth Oriented Club (NIYOC) were tested and 5 were found COVID-19 positive.

One of the five persons hails from Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai and the other four hail from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.

The person from Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai had recently attended a Shradh ceremony.

It may be noted that a doctor who had also attended the Shradh ceremony was later tested COVID positive creating tension among the locals and people who attended the ceremony.

Thirty five more people from Thoubal were also tested positive today at RIMS, according to a late report.

After detection of cases, several areas have been declared as containment zones.

The containment zones include areas of Changangei Uchekon in Imphal West, Pukhrambam Thingel and Phubala in Bishnupur district.

Areas in Changangei Uchekon in Imphal West were sealed off after one resident tested positive for the virus.

Similarly, areas of Pukhrambam Thingel in Bishnupur were sealed off as containment zones after one resident tested positive.

Areas of Phubala were sealed off after three residents tested COVID-19 positive.
