Imphal, July 05 2024:
The clogging of Naga Nullah has led to inundation of several areas in Imphal viz Nagaram, Laipham Khunou and Lairikyengbam Leikai including the residential places.
It may be mentioned that these three localities were also flooded last month following the breach of Imphal River and the water subsided only recently.
Speaking to the media today, a local of Laipham Khunou said that the clogging of Naga Nullah has led to flooding in the said areas.
Saying that water has become stagnant from Khuyathong to Nambul Mapal stretch of Naga Nullah, he added that the chances of flooding in areas adjacent to Naga Nullah will reduce significantly if the accumulated matter in the drain is removed.

Rampant disposal of plastic bottles and garbage led to the clogging of Naga Nullah, the local said.
Meanwhile, a weather report published by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a heavy to very heavy rain spell in Manipur and some other States viz Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura in the next few days till July 9 .
At Dingku Road, flood victims of Nagaram, Tang-khul Avenue and Dewlah- land staged a sit in protest and highlighted their grievances to the Government.
Sonia Muivah, one of the protesters, said that their areas get flooded frequently due to the failure of the Government to fix the defective drainage system.
She also expressed disappointment over the failure of the Government to evict the illegally constructed structures on river banks and those blocking drainage channels.
Saying that the Government has been turning a blind eye to their problem, she appealed to the Government to provide some assistance to the flood victims.
