296 Kl of SK oil allocated in dubious manner

Imphal, March 05 2012: In addition to the normal allocation for the current month, 296 Kl of SK Oil have been allocated in a very dubious manner, informed a reliable source.

According to an office memorandum issued by the Under Secretary of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on March 3, due kerosene allocations were made for different districts of Manipur as well as sub-divisions.

However, a separate allocation of 296 Kls was made to 11 dealers/extension points even as all of them were included in the allocations made for different districts and sub-divisions.

As per the office memorandum, 396 Kls of SK Oil were allocated to 12 dealers/extension points of Imphal West, 204 Kl to seven dealers/extension points of Imphal East, 52 Kl to two dealers/extension points of Jiribam sub-division, 284 Kl to 29 dealers/extension points of Thoubal, 176 Kl to three dealers/extension points of Bishnupur district and 172 Kl to five dealers/extension points of Churachandpur district.

96 Kl to two dealers/extension points of Chandel, 116 Kl to nine dealers/extension points of Ukhrul, 110 Kl to two dealers/extension points of Senapati and 124 Kl to 19 dealers/extension points of Kangpokpi.

For different reasons, allocation for Tamenglong district was issued separately.

Altogether 86 Kl were allocated to four dealers/extension points of Tamenglong district.

In addition to these allocations, 11 dealers/extension points were picked up again and they were allocated 296 Kl of SK Oil.

The 11 dealers/extension points which allocated extra quantity of SK Oil are M/s Sekmai Kerosene Agency (60 Kl), M/s K Lukhoi Singh Lamlai (32 Kl), M/s BB & Sons, Jiribam (8 Kl), M/s SKB Singh, Pallel (40 Kl), M/s Ema Kerosene Agency, Ningthoukhong (28 Kl), M/s BB & Co, CCpur (24 Kl), M/s R Rounder, Chandel (16 Kl), M/s ZV Napoleon, Ukhrul (20 Kl), M/s Kerosene Depot, Kangpokpi (26 Kl), M/s Kerosene Depot, Kangpokpi ADC (22 Kl) and M/s KD Agency, Tamenglong (20 Kl) .

Some dealers have already raised strong suspicion against issuing separate and additional allocation to the 11 particular dealers/extension points.

They also expressed apprehension that this huge quantity of SK Oil may be siphoned off without ever reaching the public.

The State quota of SK Oil was fixed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas based on the number of households.

Earlier, Manipur received monthly quota of 2334 Kls but this was reduced to 2112 Kls by an order issued by the Government of India on February 4, 2010 .

Even as the State's quota of kerosene is shipped in regularly excepting days of blockade, the same commodity mysteriously never reaches the public in any adequate quantity.

At present, people are buying kerosene from market at Rs 60 per litre.

While people are buying kerosene at the exorbitant price of Rs 60 per litre, it is unjustifiable to allocate 296 Kls in a dubious manner, said some dealers.

If the allocation was done according to rules, it should have been included the district-wise allocation.

"There is no need for issuing a separate allocation", they said.
