Imphal, July 04 2024:
Even as the 40-feet long section of Imphal River bank which breached at Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Imphal West has been completely repaired/restored, vast areas of Imphal East including Okram Chuthek, Kitna Panung, Khongman and Uchekkon have been inundated by flood water flowing from relatively higher grounds.
With the breached section now restored, the flood situation has improved considerably at Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Waikhom Leikai and surrounding areas.
However, the huge volume of water which gushed through the breached section before it was restored has been flowing southward thereby inundating Kakwa, Naorem Leikai, Liwa Lambi and Canchipur.

With the flood water now heading toward Langthabal, large tracts of paddy fields along Liwa Lambi have been submerged under water.
Although not much of the flood water reached the Kyamgei area, some paddy fields have been inundated.
With the flood water rushing to residential areas in Langthabal, many people were seen making diversion channels to divert the flood water to Nambul River.
The SDO Wangoi too came to the spot and inspected the flood situation.
The flood waters reached Manipur University campus this morning.
By afternoon, large parts of the university campus were flooded.
On the other hand, Uchekkon and surrounding areas have been facing a grim situation after a section of the embankment of Kongba River breached at Kongba Irong on July 2 .
The situation has worsened with sporadic rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
Almost all the residential areas of Bashikhong, Okram Chuthek, Kitna Panung, Uchekkon, Khongman and surrounding areas as well as roads have been inundated.
Moreover, all the paddy fields in these areas have also been submerged under water.
Already, several relief camps have been opened at different locations.
At the same time, the embankments of the Imphal River which flows to the western side of these areas of Imphal East are also in very bad shape.
As such, people fear that the embankments may breach or the Imphal River may overflow if the rain continues.
So far, 20 places of Imphal East including Kshetrigao, Wangkhei and Ayangpalli have been inundated.
In Imphal West, around 15 places including Singjamei, Kakwa and Canchipur have been enduring devastating floods.
Meanwhile, many rivers were flowing above warning level and flood level when measured from multiple gauge sites.
When measured at Ithai Barrage at 5 pm today, the water level of Manipur River was reported to be 769.810 metres which is above high flood level.
