Re-examinations : Exam committee to take final stand

The examination committees of BOSEM and COHSEM will decide if re-examinations will be conducted for subjects which were leaked online, said Education (S) Secretary, N Praveen.
The Education (S) Secretary said this while speaking to media persons at his office in the presence of officials of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) .
Notably, the Social Science question paper for the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) was leaked on WhatsApp on February 25 about half an hour before the examination.
Similarly, the question paper for Physics for Class XII was leaked on WhatsApp on March 3 nearly half an hour before the examination.

BOSEM conducts the Class X examination while COHSEM conducts the Class XII examinations.
Speaking about the leaks, N Praveen said the examination committees of the BOSEM and the COHSEM are discussing whether or not there will be re-examinations for the subjects leaked online, and decisions will be taken soon.
The leaks are very unfortunate and it has affected the morale, hardwork and trust of students as well as the people, he said.
In connection with the Class XII Physics paper leakage, police have arrested two individuals, N Praveen informed.
Those found involved in the leaks will not be spared and appropriate actions will be taken against them, he said, lauding the prompt action of the Cyber Crime Police in arresting the culprits.
It may be mentioned that in connection with the HSLCE Social Science paper leakage on February 25, police had arrested two teachers from Thoubal on March 2 .
Persons who leak question papers are liable to be punished with a minimum penalty of 5 years in jail or a fine of not less than Rs 10 lakh, N Praveen said.
Further, the BOSEM and COHSEM examination committees are holding discussion about possible actions against the examination centres where the leaks have occurred, he said.
The examination centres where leaks have been reported from may be blacklisted for all future examinations, he added.
All persons involved in the cases and use of unfair-means will be dealt with according to the law, he added.
