Imphal, June 03 2025:
Notwithstanding the sustained efforts to repair the breached section of the western embankment of Kongba River at Bashikhong Kongba Irong, the areas under deluge are only expanding.
Huge volumes of water gushing out of the breached embankment have flooded most areas of Bashikhong with the exception of the Kongba Irong, Maimom Leikai and the northern side of the Bashikhong Keithel.
The flood waters have almost covered Yuvraj Palli which connects Khongman Okram Chuthek to Ucheckon.
Piles of earth gathered in front of residential gates to build bandh or water barriers were seen on the eastern side of Khongman-Okram Chuthek-Bashikhong road.

The road leading from Bashikhong to Kongba Irong has been submerged.
On the other hand, the level of Kongba River has receded a little and hectic efforts are on to repair and restore the breached embankments.
But these efforts were not quite successful till 5 pm today.
Notably, a 30-feet section of Kongba River embankment collapsed last night at Bashikhong Kongba Irong (Waikhom Mapa) and the breached section enlarged gradually.
On the other hand, several areas of Porompat including JNIMS complex and Imphal East DC office complex are still inundated after a section of Imphal River embankment breached at Khurai Heikrumakhong.
Wangkhei-Kongba Road has been submerged under water at Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai and Thangjam Leikai.
Kongba Kshetri Leikai to Lairenpat section of Kongba-Irilbung road is also still under water.
With flood waters still flowing with force over Singjamei-Kongba road, the road is still risky for two-wheelers and light vehicles even though heavy vehicles can move over it.
Meanwhile, the breached section of Imphal River embankment at Hayel-Hangoon has been repaired and thus Mayai Lambi has been re-connected.
Meanwhile, the water levels of most rivers have started receding following abatement of rainfall during the last 24 hours.
According to information received from the main flood control room of the Water Resources Department, there was no rainfall at Kangpokpi, the catchment area of Imphal River from 6 am of June 2 till 6 am of June 3.There was no rainfall at Saikul too during the same period.
Notably, Saikul is the catchment area of Iril River.
Litan, the catchment area of Thoubal River received just 1 mm rainfall from 6 am of June 2 till 6 am of June 3.Although Raj Bhavan received 1 mm rainfall from 6 am to 10 am today, the rain gauge stationed at the Raj Bhavan did not receive any rainfall from 6 am of June 2 till 6 am of June 3.Jiribam received 22 mm rainfall during the same period but there was no rainfall from 10 am to 6 pm today.
Imphal River, Iril River and Nambul River which were flowing at flood level receded to warning level at 6 pm today.
Thoubal River and Manipur River have receded below warning level.
However, the Nambol River was flowing above flood level as of 6 pm today.
While four gates each of Ithai Barrage and Imphal Barrage have been opened, only one gate of Thoubal Barrage has been opened by 0.20 metre.
The other gates are kept shut.
