Imphal, June 03 2024: The High Court of Manipur has set aside an order passed by the Special Judge (ND & PS), Thoubal on January 20, 2021 which discharged nine accused persons allegedly involved in the sale and transportation of contraband items.

In addition, the High Court has also issued a directive to proceed with a trial after framing charges under Sections 22(c)/29/60(3) ND&PS Act and Section 468 IPC against the nine accused persons.

It may be mentioned that the State had filed a revision petition against the discharge order in the Supreme Court.

The apex Court had then instructed the High Court of Manipur to decide the revision petition.

The nine accused have been identified as Mohammad Hussain alias Thoiba (32), s/o Zakir Hussain of Thoubal Wangkhem Muslim Mamang Leikai; Kyaw Kyaw Niang alias Abdul Jabar alias Ula Sin of Kawhmu village, Moha Rangoon, Myanmar; Md Ayub Khan (41) years, s/o (L) Md Azizur Rahaman of Yairipok Wangkhem Muslim Mamang Leikai; Md Abdul Rajaque (35), s/o Abdul Rahim of Yairipok Tulihal near Aam Walli Masajid; Jhutan Malakar alias Jhuthan Malakar (29), s/o Shuamal Malakar of Kamalpur village, South Tripura; Tanmoy Pal (22), s/o Tapan Kanti Pal of Krishnapur village Ward No 7, North Tripura; Biman Das (38), s/o (L) Bimal Das alias Dimal Chandra Das of South Ramnagar Itkhalapoara, West Tripura A/P Gandhigram Kathaltali village near Tripureswari Mandir English School, West Tripura district; Abdul Hashim, (42), s/o Abu Tahar Nia of Rajnagar village, West Agartala, A/P Bhadramishipara village, West Tripura district and Saikh Muhamad Ahnsan (39), s/o MV Ahmed of Phoudel Mayai Leikai, Thoubal.

Notably, on August 24, 2019, the Thoubal District police with the assistance of Phoudel Keirambi Youth Club members had recovered 40,000 WY tablets from the possession of Mohammad Hussain at IVR Phoudel Keirambi Mathak Leikai under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station.

The other eight accused persons were apprehended based on information divulged by Mohammad Hussain and other subsequent arrestees.
