Imphal, Sep 02: The Bishnupur district units of Desam and AMSU will co-host a public meeting at Bishnupur community hall on September 9 to discuss alleged coercion by activists of AISF, Bishnupur District Council on matters concerning admission and issuance of transfer certificates for enrolment of students to the Jawahar Nehru Vidyalaya, Bishnupur.

informing the meeting schedule in a joint press conference at the office of AMSU Bishnupur District Committee today, representatives of AMSU and DESAM asserted that future of the AISF unit in the district would be decided in the meeting after a detailed report of the latter's conduct/activities is presented and discussed threadbare.

president of the AMSU unit T Chingkheinganba described as unfortunate alleged involvement of AISF volunteers in admission matters of the JNV (Bpr) by insisting upon the parent/guardian parties to cough up certain amount for enrolment of their wards and pressure exerted upon other institution authorities.

Chingkheinganba said a total of 939 candidates had registered in the ZEO, Bishnupur for appearing in the 2006 JNV selection test out of which 653 candidates appeared with 69 passing the test.

Joining the media briefing, one N Biren Nongsaba who is said to be president of the parents' body of selected candidates alleged that volunteers of the AISF unit had collected money from the parents/guardian to secure admission in the institute.

Biren further contended that after the JNV principal on June 19 notified the parents to complete admission formalities the parents/guardians arrived at the institute only to be told by the headmaster that approval of the AISF, Bishnupur unit is necessary as the student body had slipped in a letter to the institution authorities on the matter.

Stating that to nullify unnecessary intervention from certain quarters in admission matters, the parents' body of selected candidates was formed, Biren further accused leaders of the AISF unit of demanding Rs 2000 for admission of each candidate when the parents approached the student body to secure clearance.

As per an agreement reached between the parents/guardians and the AISF the demanded amount was reduced to Rs 1500 each which was duly complied by parents of 27 selected candidates, he added.

Moreover, furious at the absence of parents of the remaining seven candidates on the assigned day, the AISF doubled the amount as penalty which was also complied by the parents, Biren informed and added that th AISF even charged the parents' body of making the issue public.

The AISF also went to the extent of accusing headmasters of various institutions, where the 34 selected candidates were previously studying, of issuing transfer certification without conforming to prescribed norms, expressed some of the headmasters concerned.

They also alleged that AISF volunteers vent their anger against the schools concerned and shut down offices of the headmasters on August 22.Further the AMSU/DESAM representatives informed that a special team of the student bodies would be formed to compile a detailed report on the JNV admission issue as well as conduct of the AISF which would be presented in the September 9 public meeting.
