Many more respond to firearm surrender call

Following the Governor's announcement on Friday extending the deadline for the voluntary surrender of looted and illegally held firearms by another seven days until March 6, a significant number of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and tactical gear were surrendered to police and security forces across different districts in the last two days.
According to the latest reports, various firearms of different calibres, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, explosive materials, projectiles, and other tactical equipment, including body armour, bulletproof helmets, and handheld radio sets, were handed over by individuals responding to the appeal.
On Saturday, several firearms and ammunition, along with other items, were surrendered to the Bishnupur Commando (CDO) .

The surrendered firearms included one .303 rifle, one double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) gun, four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns, nine detonators, three WP smoke grenades, two INSAS LMG magazines, one INSAS rifle magazine, three signal cartridges, seven bicart strips, 10 blank cartridges of .303, two wood-piercing shells, five .303 ammunition chargers, and 12 7.62mm ammunition chargers.
In addition, six No 36 HE grenades, one country-made .32 pistol, one .32 pistol magazine, four 12-bore cartridges, 54 rounds of .303 ammunition, 11 SLR ammunition, and 10 5.56mm Amogh ammunition were also turned in.
A large quantity of protective and tactical gear was among the items surrendered, including 19 bulletproof vests, nine bulletproof plates six bulletproof helmets, two camouflage pants, two camouflage shirts, two camouflage T-shirts, one camouflage P-cap, and a Baofeng walkie-talkie set.
At Lamlai police station in Imphal East district, a large quantity of ammunition was surrendered, including 228 rounds of .380-inch MK-2 cartridge revolver packed in 19 packets, 26 MK 13T ODR rounds, four 5.56 live rounds, and six 7.62 live rounds.
Explosives included one No.36 hand grenade, one stinger grenade, one WP Gren No 80, and one tear smoke shell.
Other surrendered items included six empty cages of Shaktiman 12 Express, eight empty 9mm cartridges, 23 empty 5.56 cartridges, 14 empty 7.62 mm cartridges, three bulletproof jackets, one magazine post (front side), two Baofeng radio sets, and two military helmets.
At Porompat PS in Imphal East district, one Enfield .303 rifle and three No 36 hand grenades were surrendered.
Similarly, at CDO-Imphal East, one .303 rifle with a magazine, one 9mm pistol with a magazine, one 12-bore single-barrel gun, three No 36 hand grenades, five .303 live rounds, one smoke grenade, and three empty ammunition boxes were turned in.
At Sagolmang PS in Imphal East district, Kuki village volunteers from Wakan village in Kangpokpi district, through the 28th and 16th Assam Rifles, surrendered arms included one locally made Lathod gun, three locally made rifles, two locally made SBBL guns, five locally made improvised Pompi guns with triggers, six locally made improvised Pompi launchers, eight rounds of 12-gauge red cartridges, two misfired 12-gauge red cartridges, 10 rounds of 12-gauge white cartridges, one misfired 12-gauge white cartridge, seven 12-bore ASTRAM MAGNA brown cartridges marked as KF, two locally made grenades, three locally made Pompi shells, and three Baofeng radio sets - one without a battery and antenna.
At Patsoi PS Imphal West district, three country-made single-barrel guns, one air gun, one No 36 hand grenade, two Kenwood wireless handsets, three Baofeng wireless handsets, three chargers, four stun grenades, three helmets, seven bulletproof jackets, and two pairs of boots were surrendered.
At Lamphel PS in Imphal West district, a 7.62 SLR with a magazine, a .303 rifle with a magazine, an M-1 carbine with a magazine, a DBBL gun, a SBBL gun, five No.36 high-explosive (H/E) grenades, six tube launchers, an empty carbine magazine, an empty INSAS magazine, three anti-riot smoke bombs, four 7.62 mm rounds, 83 rounds of 5.57 mm, and five camouflage caps were surrendered.
