Imphal, Jul 31:
Taking strong exception against the failure of the State Govt to take up action against officials for allegedly misappropriating funds released by the Centre, five tribal organisations which have raised the accusations have lined up a series of agitations in the coming days.
"Since the Government has turned a deaf ear to our demand to rope in the service of the CBI and probe the alleged fund misappropriation and punish the guilty we have decided to impose a bandh in all the hill districts on August 5," said Johnson,
spokesman of the five bodies while talking to The Sangai Express.
The decision to go ahead with the strike was taken during a meeting of the five bodies yesterday which include the Zeliangrong Union (AMN), Movement for Tribal Peoples' Rights, Manipur, Sadar Hills Youth Union, All Colleges Tribal Students Organisation, Manipur and Tribal Vigilance Forum, Manipur.
"After the August 5 bandh we will study the situation and if the Government fails to respond positively, then the second phase of the agitation will start," warned Johnson of the Tribal Vigilance Forum.
The five bodies had earlier given the State Government ten days time to pull up the erring officials, who allegedly misappropriated a huge amount of money released by the Centre for education and also the failure to distribute the PDS items in the hill districts.
The Education Directorate had earlier issued a clarification negating the charges levelled by the five bodies.
Flatly rejecting the version of the Education Department, the five bodies had submitted memoranda to the Governor, Chief Minister and Human Resource Development Minister.
The memoranda mentioned that the Sarva Shishya Abhiyan has failed miserably in the State.
