MPCC takes Jai Bharat Satyagraha across Manipur
BJP weaponizing laws, alleges Cong

Imphal, March 31 2023: Khangabok Constituency MLA Okram Sujakumar has categorically stated that the way in which INC leader Rahul Gandhi was suspended as a member Lok Sabha is a defeat for democracy itself and a major setback in Indian politics.

Addressing a press briefing organised by Thoubal District Congress Committee (TDCC) at Thoubal Athokpam, O Sujakumar continued that the Congress party is with Rahul Gandhi and will fight together to save democracy.

It is normal for politicians to criticise others especially during the time of elections, the MLA said, asking what the BJP is expecting from the Opposition parties.

"What will be the fate of the country if a defamation case is filed for all the accusations levelled against one another during the time of election," he further questioned.

There are many other politically related cases but the way in which Rahul Gandhi was convicted and disqualified in such a short notice is suspicious, Surjakumar added.

Accusing the BJP of even suppressing the voice of the media, he added that the Congress, however, will not be intimidated by the dirty scheme of the BJP.

Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Hareswar Goswami has said that disqualifying Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for accusing some people having a similar surname of looting National wealth was unjustifiable.

Different Congress units in Manipur also slammed the BJP Government by accusing them of weaponizing laws.

Speaking to media persons at Nongmeibung Community Hall today, the MPCC spokesperson said that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has launched a pan India and month-long Jai Bharat Satyagraha to extend solidarity to Rahul Gandhi who has been 'removed from being a Lok Sabha member by the BJP forcefully' .

The Satyagraha which began on March 29 will continue till April 30, he added.

Claiming that Rahul Gandhi was targeted for highlighting the nexus between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business tycoon Gautam Adani, Hareswar Goswami added, "People know the truth" .

Further claiming that Rahul Gandhi didn't accuse the entire people with Modi surname in his controversial remark which led to his conviction in the run up to 2019 Karnataka election other than targeting Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi of looting National wealth, the Congress spokesman alleged that Rahul Gandhi was singled out mainly for demanding a probe into the Adani issue by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) .

He also claimed that the process in which Rahul Gandhi was disqualified bypassed the functioning of the Election Commission.

Accusing the BJP of running the country tyrannically, Hareswar Goswami asked how long the saffron party is going to send CBI or ED to critics.

"Even if one has committed a grave crime, one will be excused if the person is willing to join the BJP," he claimed.

He further said that the grand old party will do whatever it can to save democracy and until all those who engage in crony capitalism are booked.

Ukhrul District Congress Committee (UDCC) , while intensifying its protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi and demanding a JPC probe into Adani issue, held a similar briefing as a part of "Jai Bharat Satyagraha" at Viewland, Ukhrul, today.

Speaking to media persons, Stanhope Kashak, president of Ukhrul District Congress Committee accused the BJP Government of being a fascist.

"Indian democracy is in danger, if a person raises voice and questions the Government, they will slap different charges to silence him or her," he claimed.

Every right thinking citizen of the country must come together irrespective of their political affiliation and safeguard democracy, he appealed.

Similar press briefings were also held at Nambol, Chandel, Moreh and some other places by the Congress party and they slammed the BJP Government for using laws as their tool allegedly.

At Kangpokpi the Sadar Hills District Congress Committee, District Mahila Congress Committee, District Youth Congress, and the three Block Congress Committee including block Mahila and the AYCs also staged the Jai Bharat Satyagraha.

Addressing the media, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, vice president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, who is also the former INC candidate of 51-Saitu AC said that today's press conference is all about launching the "Jai Bharat Satyagraha" which means to stand by the truth in every book and corner of India and in solidarity and support of former AICC president Rahul Gandhi He said that Rahul Gandhi always stand by the truth and the people of India against the incompetency and failure of the BJP and all other such agencies which work against the people of the country.

Dr Lamtinthang maintained that the conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi is nothing but an intentional target and a sinister ploy to save Adani which obviously demonstrated that the Prime Minister does not want his relationship with Adani to be further exposed.
