The 4th Ashangbam Minaketan Memorial Lecture, jointly organised by the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal, and the Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA), Imphal, was held today at the DIPR Auditorium in Nityaipat Chuthek, Keishampat.
The lecture focused on the contemporary topic, "Houjikki Manipuri Nupisinggi Phijet- Leitengda Honglakliba Mashak".
The event commenced with floral tributes and the lighting of a lamp in front of a photograph of Ashangbam Minaketan.
The presidium members included Sunanda Thokchom, secretary of MSKA; and Naoroibam Indramani, president of Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti.
Prof Toijam Tampha Devi, Dean of the School of Humanities at Manipur University, delivered the main memorial lecture on the chosen theme.
Dr Huirem Temba, general secretary of the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, explained that the Ashangbam Minaketan Memorial Lecture is an annual event.
The series began in 2023 with a lecture by Prof S Lanchenba Meetei, who is currently the Dean of the School of Humanities at DM University and Principal of DM College of Arts.
The second lecture in 2024 was delivered by Dr Thokchom Ibohanbi, and the third in 2025 by Prof Polem Nabachandra.
This year marked the fourth installment of the series.
The primary objective of the memorial lecture series is to select relevant and timely topics related to Manipuri literature, culture, and tradition, and to invite experts to speak on them.
The organisers aim to publish these lectures as books to contribute to the repository of Manipuri literature.
The series does not focus solely on Minaketan's life and work but uses his name to foster broader cultural and literary discussions.
