Dengue, HFMD control measures stepped up

Churachandpur, August 27 2026: Health authorities in Churachandpur have stepped up disease surveillance and preventive measures amid reports of suspected dengue cases and concern over the spread of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) among schoolchildren.

Speaking at a press conference at the CMO's office here today, Chief Medical Officer Dr Henkhoneng Mate and Medical Superintendent Dr Kh Sania Monica appealed to the public to remain calm and seek early medical attention for persistent fever and other concerning symptoms.

Dr Mate said 10 teams from Government health centres have been formed to visit schools and create awareness among students, teachers and staff about the transmission, symptoms, prevention and treatment of dengue and HFMD.

Health advisories on heat-related illnesses, dengue and HFMD have also been issued.

Following the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, the State Government has dispatched insecticides for dengue control and additional fogging machines to the district.

Fogging and source-reduction activities have been intensified in vulnerable areas, officials said.

Dr Monica said the district's hospitals and health facilities were prepared to manage patients according to the severity of their illness.

She advised people against self-medication, particularly the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, and urged them to ensure adequate fluids, rest and timely medical consultation.

The officials also cautioned the public against relying on rumours and unverified information circulating on social media.

Meanwhile, the Districtlevel TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Committee met at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Tuibong this afternoon to review progress towards tuberculosis elimination in the district.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, was attended by District TB Officer Dr Jam Thianlal, senior district officials and other stakeholders.

Health officials said only 22,732 of the 142,136 people mapped under the target population have been screened, accounting for 16%.Of the 110,008 people identified as high-risk, 21,749 (19.8%) have been screened.

The district has tested 4,138 people, detecting 641 TB cases, and recording a positivity rate of 15.5% .
