Imphal, June 24 2026:
A three-day "Science Motivation Programme for Talented School Students of Manipur" was inaugurated today at the Manipur Science Centre, Takyelpat.
The programme, running till June 26, is jointly organised by the Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), and the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Manipur.
Science & Technology and Youth Affairs & Sports Secretary Naorem Praveen, Science & Technology Director Chingakham Shachi, and MASTEC Director Dr Kh Rakesh attended as chief guest, guest of honour, and president.
Thirty meritorious students, two each from various Government schools, are participating.
In his address, Naorem Praveen said science is a process of inquiry and forms the basis of all work.
He noted that students often view science as difficult, leading to low enrolment in science institutes.
He stressed that marks alone do not define merit and urged students to focus on concepts and basic knowledge.
Praveen added that new thinking is vital to achieve the Viksit Bharat vision by 2047 .
Chingakham Sachi said the prevailing culture of pursuing only medicine or engineering limits students, noting many other career paths exist.
Dr Kh Rakesh said participants will interact with scientists on the final day and explore career options after Class XII .
