Farmers' training programme on soil conservation held at Langathel

Thoubal, June 23 2026:
A farmers' training-cum-awareness programme on the theme "Save the Soil, Save Farming, Save Farmers" was organised at Langathel on Tuesday by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Thoubal, and the ICAR-AT ARI Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya.
The programme was conducted as part of the Nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fanners Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), with the objective of preserving soil health, promoting natural farming practices and reducing excessive dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
The event was attended by Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen as chief guest, Agriculture Department Director Peter Salam as functional president, and Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Yumnam Robita, KVK Thoubal Senior Scientist and Head-in-Charge Dr Kh Premlata Devi, District Agriculture Officer and District Horticulture and Soil Conservation Officer as guests of honour.
During the technical session, KVK Thoubal Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection) L Borish Singh delivered a detailed presentation on the preparation, importance and application of Beejamrith, a natural farming input.
Farmers were also given practical demonstrations on its preparation and use.
As part of the programme, biofertilizers and various seeds were distributed to fanners.
Stalls of different line departments and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) were also set up, where farmers were provided information and registration facilities for various schemes and services.
