Ukhrul, May 23 2025:
In view of numerous tourists causing destruction to the endangered Shirui Lily over the last two days, the Shirui Youth Club (SYC) has requested all visitors to refrain from picking or uprooting the rare flower and other plants on Shirui Kashong.
A statement issued by Ningkhanrin Shangh, president, Shirui Youth Club has expressed strong discontentment against the irresponsible act of uprooting, plucking and trampling over the blooming flowers.
It has warned that firm action will be taken against any tourist found destroying or uprooting the flowers or plants.
According to reports, this destructive behaviour of thoughtless and careless visiting tourists have drastically reduced the number of the State flower over the last 2/3 days.
The Shirui Lily Festival is celebrated to honour the State flower and aims to promote eco-tourism in the district.
However, the destruction of the Shirui Lily, which is endemic to the hills of Shirui Kashong, has drawn serious concern of the local youth club.
The Club has urged all visitors to admire the beauty of the flower, to enjoy the festival without disturbing the rare Shirui Lily and to avoid any activities that could harm the fragile ecosystem of Shirui Peak.
"Let us be responsible tourists", appealed SYC .
Additionally, Ningkhanrin Shangh urged visitors to avoid picking flowers from Kashong hillock.
The pristine scenic beauty of Shirui mountain range should be preserved as it is one of the most valuable assets of the State, he added.
The SYC president also stressed on responsible tourism and urged the visitors to cooperate and embrace a "less greedy approach" to enhance everyone's experience.
