Tree plantation drive organised

As per the directives of the Government of India and Government of Manipur, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University, Canchipur and Lions Club of Canchipur Palace jointly organised a "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Plant4mother" tree plantation drive on August 20-21, 2024.The tree plantation drive was conducted in collaboration with three NSS units of Manipur University and Forestry & Environmental Science, Manipur University, said a release.
The tree plantation drive was inaugurated by Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University.
The VC distributed about 400 seedlings to different departments and planted a symbolic tree near the MU NSS office.
He also emphasized the importance of tree planting as a vital step towards environmental conservation and selection of plantation sites and called for sustained care of previously planted trees.
On the second day, NSS Cell adopted a 50-square-me-ter area near Tangjeng Maril, located on the northern side of the University's main Gate and designated as "Matri Van".
This area is a dedicated space within the campus for ongoing tree plantation efforts.
About 100 trees were planted in Matri Van, contributing significantly to the University's ongoing commitment towards the Manipur Government's target of planting 30 lakh seedlings by September 2024 and 50 lakh seedlings by March 2025.Dr Maibam Nodiyachand Singh, NSS Cell coordinator and president of Lions Club of Canchipur Palace along with 25 officials and about 100 volunteers participated in the plantation drive.
