MEA appeals for allotment of NCC R&V Squadron for Manipur

The Manipur Equestrian Association (MEA) has appealed to the Director General, National Cadet Corps Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh PVSM, AVSM, VSM to consider authorizing and allotting a National Cadet Corps - Remount & Veterinary (R&V) Squadron for the State of Manipur.
The R&V Squadron is a unit of NCC that provides training and adventure activities involving horses.
A letter addressed to the NCC Director General signed by Lt Col L Manongba (retd), chairman, MEA referred to the vacancy of one NCC R&V Squadron for allotment to any State at the NCC Directorate.
On behalf of the horse riding sports persons of Manipur, the letter appealed for this allotment to be given to the state of Manipur.
Additionally, MEA also requested the State Government and the concerned department to examine the feasibility and send an official proposal to the NCC Directorate.
In the letter, MEA underscored the need to enhance the scope of motivating and training the youth in other arenas and presented equestrian and polo as one of the sporting disciplines that can be considered for the boys and girls of Manipur.
It pointed out that the youth of Manipur are naturally gifted in horse riding and Manipuri riders have participated in the equestrian events of National games since 1999, 2000 & 2002 (32nd), where they have won medals.
Additionally, International Polo Tournaments have been conducted every year with the participation of teams from abroad.
Further solidifying the horse riding potential among the youth, the letter informed that RVC Centre & College Meerut (Boys Sports Company) recently conducted an "All India Open Rally for selection of boys in Equestrian Sports (Horse Riding)" where Eastern Command sponsored seven talented riders' .
Six out of seven boys from Manipur were selected, it added.
Allotting the NCC R&V Squadron to Manipur will go a long way in motivating and tapping the talent of youth in the strife tom State, said the MEA letter.
