Rallies in Lilong, Phoubakchao demand removal of non-Muslim members from Waqf Board

Protests and rallies were held in Lilong and Phoubakchao, with participants demanding the removal of two non-Muslim members from the 8th Waqf Board of Manipur constituted by the State Government.
A massive rally was organised at Lilong on Friday under the aegis of the Lilong United Club (LUC), protesting the inclusion of members from the non-Muslim community in the Waqf Board.
The rally commenced from Ushoipokpi and proceeded towards Lilong Bazar.
Protesters carried placards bearing slogans such as "We condemn inclusion of nonMuslims in Waqf Board", "Remove non-Muslims from Waqf Board" and "Waqf Board is for Muslims", while raising similar slogans during the march.
LUC convenor Sajad Bhuyamayum expressing strong objection to the inclusion of non-Muslims in the 8th Waqf Board of Manipur, Sajad alleged that the State Government's decision had hurt the sentiments of the Meitei Pangal community.
He appealed to the Manipur Government to review the composition of the Waqf Board and immediately remove the non-Muslim members, taking into consideration the sentiments of the people.
Meanwhile, a similar protest rally was organised at Phoubakchao on Thursday by the Youth Development Association Phoubakchao, Jamiatul Ulama Phoubakchao, PYMDA and various local clubs and organisations, denouncing the inclusion of non-Muslims in the 8th Waqf Board of Manipur.
Participants raised slogans including "Do not politicise the Waqf Board," "Let Waqf in Manipur be only for the Meitei Pangal community" and "We condemn the act of the Manipur Government".
The rally began from Phoubakchao Bazar and proceeded towards Komlakhong before returning to Phoubakchao.
where a public meeting was held at Madrassah Roujatul Banaat.
During the meeting, the gathering resolved to continue its agitation along with the people of Manipur if the nonMuslim members were not removed from the Waqf Board.
