Bishnupur, August 20 2025:
The Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumi Sinmi Amadi Nupi Lup has issued an ultimatum to the State Government, warning it of launching intense agitations if pending compensation amount for lost of crops for the years 2023 and 2024 is not release by September 5 .
The compensation pertains to farmers whose paddy fields could not be cultivated due to the ongoing violence in the State since May 2023 .
Speaking at a meeting held at Moirang Turelbal Leikai Mandop, the secretary of the Loumi Lup, L Manglem said that despite repeated appeals and written representations to the Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur and other authorities concerned, the pending compensation has not yet been released.
Manglem further noted that while some security arrangements have been made in "red zone areas", many farmers in Bishnupur still lack adequate protection, preventing them from cultivating their fields.
Agriculture is the primary occupation in the district.
It helps feed "our families" .
The Government must ensure sufficient security to allow farmers to resume cultivation, he stressed.
Without adequate security measures, farmers will be forced to risk their lives and tend to the fields.
The Government must bear the responsibility if any untoward incidents happen to any of the farmers, he asserted.
The farmers must be given their due compensation for the crops they lost during 2023 and 2024 by September 5 .
If the demand is not met by the given time, farmers of the district, along with Apunba Loumi Sinmi Amasung Nupi Lup, will launch a series of intense agitations from the following day, he said.
