Centralized admission introduced in 8 Govt Higher Sec Schools

Imphal, May 20 2014 : In a significant move to revamp the "failing" government schools in the State, the State Government has given its nod to the Education (S) Department for starting a centralized admission system in respect of eight government higher secondary schools in Imphal from this academic session onwards.

The eight schools selected for the centralized admission scheme are Ananda Singh Higherr Secondary Academy, Churachand Singh Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Ibotonsana Girls Higher Secondary School, Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School, Lamlong Higher Secondary School and Model Higher Secondary School.

This centralized admission scheme was approved by the State Government vide letter No.33/41/2013-SE (H/S) dated May 20, 2014.The scheme would be implemented with effect from May 21, 2014 .

As per the approved scheme, more than 4000 students are expected to be enrolled in these eight government higher secondary schools in the streams of Arts, Commerce and Science.

The seats would be reserved for the ST/SC/OBC/PH students as per existing reservation rules.

Each school would be allowed to offer certain combination of subjects by taking into account the availability of the concerned lecturers as well as sufficient space/room.

There would be common cut off mark for all streams namely Science, Arts and Commerce.

Further, according to the scheme, posting of sufficient teaching and non-teaching staff to these eight schools should have to be ensured along with upgradation of laboratories and other facilities on priority basis.

Hostel facilities, wherever practicable, would also be provided without further delay in order to attract more qualified students from the rural areas.

In order to instill confidence among the general public about the intent of the Government to improve the functioning of these select schools, there would be an interchange of transfer and posting of the lecturers among these schools and only the trained teachers would be posted in these schools to ensure and upgrade the quality of teaching in the schools.

Moreover, there would not be any transfer and posting of these teachers during the mid session of the schools ordinarily.

Under this new centralized admission scheme, a common admission form would be issued by the Directorate of Education (S) either through these schools or on-line free of cost, and each school would be the collection centre of the duly filled in forms.

Each applicant student would, however, be charged with an admission processing fee of Rs.100 to cover the expenses incurred in arranging this new system of admission.

All admission forms would be processed in the Directorate and allocation of students to these 8 schools would be made as per merit list prepared on the basis of marks secured in the HSLC or equivalent examination, and by taking into consideration the choice of the students as well as reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/PH students.

There would be a common admission fee structure for all the selected schools.

The issue and collection of admission forms would be completed by the month of May and processing for selection and allocation of students to the schools would be completed by the 15th of June every year.

Further, the notification for selection and allocation of schools would be notified by the Directorate of Education (S) on the 16th of June or next working day every year.

All admission processes for the allocated students should be completed by the schools concerned by the 30th of June every year in order to comply with the School Academic Calendar already notified by the Government, the new admission scheme mentioned.
