Womenfolk of Senapati prevents AR's shifting NSCN-IM cadres to Imphal

Imphal, May 20 2011: With the arrest of NSCN-IM cadres by security forces today womenfolk at Senapati district HQ blocked a convoy of 5 AR from shifting the five arrested NSCN-IM cadres to Imphal.

Reports said that the troops apprehended the five NSCN-IM cadres in Senapati district HQ today around 2 pm.

The troops based at the district HQ nabbed them as they refused to leave the place despite the warnings of the AR, a police report said.

Sources believe that some of them were important functionaries of the outfit.

When the troops were about to proceed to Imphal, a large number of womenfolk of the area took to the streets along NH 39 at Ningthoupham village, not so far away from Senapati district HQs and blocked the AR from taking away the cadres, reports said.

They also blocked movement of all kinds of civil vehicles during the protest.

Latest reports say that the womenfolk are still encircling and blocking the AR troops at the Henbung 5 AR post.

The incident recalls the recent impasse between womenfolk and 11 AR in Tamenglong district headquarters when AR arrested a leader of NSCN-IM in the last week of March.

This had resulted in a situation , which is still going on, where the All Zeliangrong Students' Union steadfastly stuck to its demand of shifting the 11 AR from Zeliangrong inhabited areas.

Amidst the protests, AR posted in different parts of Naga dominated areas continue to arrest NSCN-IM.

Recently, they had arrested four cadres of the outfit, one from Ukhrul district and three from Senapati district.

A deputy secretary and two under secretaries of the outfit were reportedly detained by troops of 5 AR at Karong in Senapati district on May 1 while the 17 AR nabbed a 'major' of the same outfit at Awang Kasom of Ukhrul district on the same day.
