RIMS, Shija Hospitals observe World Patient Safety Day

Imphal, September 18 2026: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed World Patient Safety Day 2026 on Thursday at the OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital under the theme "Safe Care for Non-communicable Diseases".

A cycling rally to raise awareness on patient safety and prevention of NCDs was flagged off by Director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma from Jubilee Hall to OPD Complex.

Patient Safety T-shirts were distributed to participants.

The main programme featured a temporary "Know Your Risk Station" inaugurated by Prof Sharma in presence of Medical Superintendent i/c Prof M Rameswar Singh, distribution of IEC materials, poster display and a signature campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma said patient safety is a fundamental responsibility requiring safe, effective and patient-centred care.

He stressed prevention, early detection, risk assessment, safe medication, continuity of care and teamwork, besides healthy lifestyles.

A Patient Safety Pledge was administered.

The event was attended by the Dean (Academics), Principals of Dental College and College of Nursing, Nodal Officer Patient Safety, HoDs, faculty, nursing officials and students.

Meanwhile, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol observed the day under the theme "Safe Care for Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs)" and slogan "Safe Care for Life" with focus on avoidable medical errors.

Held in two sessions, the morning session had a presentation on avoidable medical errors and a panel discussion, while the afternoon session heard experiences of patients living with NCDs and caregivers.

CMD Dr Palin Khundongbam said suggestions will be consolidated into a national publication to bring patient voices on safer NCD care.
