Convict sentenced to undergo 10 years RI

Imphal, May 18 2026:
A Fast Track Special Court has sentenced a 31-year-old convict, Pangambam Sanajaoba, to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 4 of POCSO Act for committing sexual assault of a minor girl.
Pangambam Sanajaoba was produced before the Court of Judge W Tonen from the Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa for sentence hearing via video conference.
He was convicted by the same Court earlier for sexually assaulting a minor on April 13, 2020 .
During the sentence hearing today, the convict pleaded for leniency.
The Judge, after hearing the submissions in the Court, sentenced the convict to undergo 3 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed Rs 20,000 for offence under Section 366 A EPC.
The Judge further ordered that the convict to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for offence punishable under Section 4 of the POCSO Act.
The Judge ordered that the sentences announced shall run concurrently and the period which the convict has gone under detention during the trial and investigation of the case is set off from the sentence announced.
