Miscreants open fire; SFs recover arms, ammos

Imphal, April 18 2024:
Several shooting incidents were reported at different places in the valley districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to police reports, unknown miscreants fired at the residential wall of one Athokpam Okendro Singh (53) s/o A Buru alias Ibo Singh of Khurai Sajor Leikai Tinsid Road under Porompat police station around 10 am Thursday while another group of miscreants who came in a Toyota Fortuner fired several rounds at Ayangpalli Road-Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Lane 5(B) around 7pm on Thursday.
On Wednesday around 9.30 pm, unknown miscreants attacked the residence of Khurai Block Congress Committee ex-president Kumabam Sanajaoba (70) at Kangla Sangomsang under Lamlai PS.
In this regard, Coordinating Committee Kangla Sangomsang co-convenor Thounaojam Bijayalakshmi strongly condemned the incident.
Speaking to newspersons at Kangla Sangomsang community hall on Thursday, she appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts in the future, while urging the individuals responsible to clarify the reason for the attack.
On the other-hand, acting on specific intelligence regarding presence of arms and ammunition in general area Samulamlan in Churachandpur district, Assam Rifles along with a team of Manipur police carried out a joint cordon and search operation on Wednesday and recovered arms and ammunition.
According to PRO IGAR (south), three single barrel 12 mm bore rifles, one 9 mm carbine machine gun with magazine, one tear gas gun, one lathode gun, ammunition and war like stores were recovered during the search operation.
In a similar intelligence-based joint operation, in general area of M Phaimol in Churachandpur district Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered one .303 Rifle, four 12 mm Single Barrel Rifles, two Improvised Heavy Mortars, ammunition and other war like stores on Wednesday.
The seized items in both op erations have been handed over to Manipur police, added the PRO.
