IDPs stage protest at Tangjeng over pending relief assistance

Thoubal, February 18 2026: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Napat and Tangjeng relief camps under SDO Waikhong Block staged a sit-in protest today at Tangjeng Mangjing Relief Camp under Sugnu Assembly Constituency, demanding immediate release of pending relief assistance through the Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) system.

The protesters urged the authorities to clear the outstanding dues and ensure timely and regular disbursal of assistance meant for food and essential expenses of IDPs who have been residing in relief camps since the outbreak of violence in the state.

Heikrujam Ongbi Romi, one of the protesters, said that displaced families continue to face hardships and distress.

She alleged that since the introduction of the DBT system, the assistance for IDPs of Napat and Tangjeng has not been credited on time.

She further appealed to the Government to enhance the daily assistance from the existing Rs 84 to Rs 100, considering the current living conditions of camp inmates.

Another IDP, Yumnam Ojit, claimed that the DBT system has failed to ensure regular and timely payments and pointed out discrepancies in the amount disbursed across different districts.

He stated that assistance for 48 individuals from 11 families of Napat and Tangjeng has been pending for the month of November.

Additionally, 20 individuals have reportedly not received any payment from November to February.

The protesters appealed to the concerned authorities to urgently intervene, clear the pending dues, and ensure uniform and timely disbursal of relief assistance to all eligible IDPs .
