Imphal, April 17 2009: Slogans like "go back foreigners from Manipur; Enforce Inner Line Permit in the state" rocked the city sky as hundreds of people mostly students shouted while taking out a procession to mark the observance of the 29th Mitkap Thokpa Numit (Realisation Day) today.

Hundreds of students braved the rain to take part in the rally organised by the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), to mark the remembrance of the two student leaders who scarified their life in an anti-foreigners agitation 29 year back in 1980 on this day after offering floral tributes to the photographs of the two students.

Earlier, before the rally kicked off from Pishum Chinga at around 10 am, students and participants of the rally offered floral tributes to the photos of the two students,P Lukhoi and H Lokendro, who made the supreme sacrifice in the course of the anti-foreigners agitation in 1980 in Manipur.

During the rally which concluded at THAU ground, Thangmeiband with rally slogans like "Go back foreigners and enforce inner line permit in the state" were shouted in one voice by the rallyists.

The rallyists braved the rain which began showering uninterrupted since morning to make the rally a grant success.

The proposed meeting at THAU ground was changed at the Central Hall of the DM College of Science due to the rain.

MLA, K Meghachandra, AMSU president, Irengbam Jamesbond Mangang, DESAM general secretary Ratankumar and ANSUM president Thomas graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honours respectively.

Giving key note address AMSU general secretary Md Allamgir said the unchecked inflow of the people from the outside is more than the total tribal populations.

The increasing number of outsiders like flood water is also giving a great impact to the socio-economy and socio-cultural and traditional system of the society.

MLA K Meghachandra, who is also former president of AMSU who attended the function as chief guest said that only when indigenous people of the state are bring to a common platform, all the challenges ahead of the people of the state could be fight citing the instance of unification of the East and West German by the united strength of the people of the two sides.

He also said that so long as literacy rate is low, advancing toward development will be hindered.

Violent and enmities are caused by the low education standard.

So, it is a must to bring quality education first.

DESAM general secretary Ratankumar also speaking on the occasion expressed concerned over the occupation of the both sides of the straight of both National Highways, 39 and 53 by non-locals.

He said now, both sides of the straight from Chingmeirong to Mao including Kanglatombi, Kangpokpi, Motbung, Sapermaina have been settled by non-locals.

In such condition, 30 of the population of the state become non-locals coming from other states.

The issues of foreigners could not be solved by killing or threatening them.

One of the ways is to replace the works doing by the non-locals.

When they have no work, they will automatically back he observed calling the people to nourish work culture.

To fight the challenging issues ahead of the state, civil bodies based in the state also need to unite.

During the meeting UCM president, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, AMSU president Y Priyokumar also delivered speech.

The AMSU observed its 29th "Realization Day" with rich floral tributes and homage at the martyrs` site located at the Pishum Chinga Macha, Imphal every year.
