Senapati, June 16 2024:
The Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association highlighted that 'the Maram to Purul Atongba road, a road stretch of 22 kilometres is in a deplorable condition since no maintenance work has been taken up by the authorities concerned'.
Notably, the maintenance work for Maram to Purul Atongba road was taken up under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
As per the signboard erected near Maram Bazar, it read as the work commenced from August 2, 2019 and completion report was submitted on February 1, 2021 .
The date for maintenance of the road is from February 1, 2021 to February 1, 2026 .
However, the Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association mentioned that no maintenance work has been taken up till date and it is now filled with potholes and cracks along the route causing inconveniences to the residents along the road.
The residents lamented that even pedestrians cannot cross the road especially during the rainy season.
It may be noted that Maram-Purul road is a vital road for connectivity for the Poumai community in Senapati district.
But due to the non-maintenance of the road over the past few years have led to the pitiable condition of the road creating problems for the commuters.
The commuters pointed out that a culvert which was constructed some 5-6 years back at a place below Koide village is not in use till date causing many inconveniences to the commuters leading to traffic jams.
