Bomb attacks gallore at candidates' houses

Imphal, January 16, 2012: As general election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly gets nearer, election related violence are also mounting all over the state.

In the latest such incident, a bomb was exploded today near the gate of Trinamool Congress candidate of Kshetrigao Kendra Pangambam Premananda at Naharup Mayai Leikai.

The bomb exploded at around 11 am today morning when a flag hoisting ceremony was underway.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident as the blast took place inside the river bank of Iril River.

According to witnesses, the bomb exploded when the supporters were coming out of the house of Premananda for a public meeting at the ground near the river bank which was adjacent to the house of Premananda.

As soon as the bomb exploded they saw some persons running towards Nongmaijing hill.

Some of the supporters chased them but the suspects succeeded in escaping.

On receiving the information, OC of Porompat Police RK Chourajit rushed to the spot and investigated the incident.

According to police source, the attack was carried out using IEDs at a distance of about 30 meters from the meeting venue.

Candidate Premananda told reporters said that the attack might have been carried out to frighten his supporters fearing he might win the election.

He also said that he had not recieved any threat or warning from any armed UG group in relation with the election or received any monetary demands.

Appealing not to repeat such act in future he challenged to attack him personally if they want to but the public.

Meanwhile, a bomb was found at a public pond near the house of Trinamool Congress candidate of Thangmeiband A/C Khumukcham Joykishan at Khuyathong when a flag hoisting ceremony was going on at his house.

The bomb was found inside a polythene bag along with a cabbage.

Police said that the bomb was IED and was planned to explode by using remote control device.

Police recovered the bomb and disposed off at Langol.

In the meantime, a bomb was also found at Tentha Khongban gorund where an election meeting of CPI candidate Dr M Nara was going on.

The bomb was found at the northern side of the ground near the meeting venue.

Police recovered the bomb.
